Brighton’s Art Open House Christmas Festival is wonderful

Brighton Open House

I just wanted to celebrate the Artists Open House Christmas Festival in Brighton running for 3 weekends ending 10th to 11th December 2016.

I live in Guernsey but my home town is Brighton so on one of my visits in November we spent an afternoon driving around Hove visiting as many Open Houses as we could fit in.

It was so much fun, we met some incredible artists, bought some beautiful Christmas gifts, and enjoyed the hospitality of mulled wine and minced pies.

Genius idea for Artists to collaborate

It is such a simple yet effective way for artists to showcase their designs without the overheads and for the public to gain access to some real quality pieces of art. Something I would like to see emulated here in Guernsey.

The Claremont Hotel

One of our stops was The Claremont Hotel in 2nd Avenue, Hove. (This is the place that offered us free mulled wine and nibbles) The hotels ground floor and stairwell was awash with gorgeous artwork.

What a great way to market your hotel?

We will now be recommending this boutique hotel to our friends and family.

Milton House

This is a stunning house both inside and out and worth a visit just to admire the building.

Inside we were delighted to find the whole of the ground floor perfectly dressed with fine pieces of arts and crafts from various artists.

They even had a little cafe for tea and cake.

Next Festival is 6th to 26th May 2017

If you missed this event then the next one will be in May when I will be back in Brighton, this time with a big bag.

It reminds me of my time in New Zealand when we used to spend a few hours on a weekend looking round Open Houses on the market, admiring the architecture of old colonial homes (and just being nosey).

Highly Recommend this event to support local artists
